Recreation in Bulahdelah and Myall Lakes National Park is as varied as the region's scenery. Whether it is bushwalking, mountain climbing, fishing, sailing, horse riding, swimming, water skiing, trail bike riding, bird watching, or just plain relaxing, Bulahdelah offers many outdoor recreational activities.

Barely an hours drive from Newcastle (easy three hours north of Sydney on the Pacific Highway) it remains unspoilt, yet has all the amenities which both residents and holiday makers desire.

The area embraces the Myall Lakes National Park, including the Myall Riverr, the Myall Lakes system, suitable for all types of pleasure craft, and five magnificent State Forests with numerous lookouts and trails.

Bulahdelah is surrounded by timber mills and has a Bowling Club, Golf Club, tennis courts, an Olympic pool, motels, hotel and caravan park. The Highway area provides a number of convenient fast food and fuel outlets, while the main business centre boasts old fashioned but comprehensive service.'

ATTRACTIONS:

ALUM MOUNTAIN
Enjoy the attractive picnic area at the base of Bulahdelah Mountain. An envigorating walk through tall forests to the height of Bulahdelah Mountain passes historical workings of the ol Alunite quarries. At the summit you are rewarded by the panoramic views of the Myall River and Lake system to the south and the magnificent forests to the north.

MYALL RIVER
A water wonderland awaits the person who chooses to holiday or live in Bulahdelah and environs. A boat ramp is available in the town with deep water access to the Myall Lakes and Port Stephens. Ocean going yachts and cruisers make their way to Bulahdelah where moorings, houseboats, an hire boats are available. A public boat ramp, wharf,  supplies, and food are also available with direct access to Broadwater at Nerong which is adjacent to the Pacific Highway 12km south of Bulahdelah.

MYALL LAKES NATIONAL PARK
The Myall Lakes system is the largest salt/fresh water system of the Australian east coast. Water is the focus of activity at Myall Lakes. Sailboard riders, canoeists, fisherman and sailors will revel in Myall's 10,000 hectares of protected waterways. This unspoilt area abounds with bird and animal life, while native flora grows prolifically in the semi tropical climate. Minutes from the Lake's eastern shore are the magnificent beaches, offering excellent beach fishing and surfing opportunities. A short walk across the sandhills is rewarded with magnificent escape panorama to Broughton Island.

"THE GRANDIS"
Located in the lush Bulahdelah State Forest only 14kms north of Bulahdelah, off the Lakes Way via Stony Creek Road, one can view the inspiring "Grandis", the tallest tree in New South Wales. A short rainforest walk provides access to this forest giant.

O'SULLIVANS GAP
Nine kilometres north of Bulahdelah along the Pacific Highway the water traveller can relax amongst the beauty of the tall flooded Gum Forest. Clean toilets and picnic facilities together with a forest walk are provided within this Floral Reserve being part of the Wang Wauk State Forest.

WOOTTON FOREST RAILWAY WALK
A thirty minute drive north Bulahdelah will take you to the historic Wootton Railway Walk. This light railway was built in the early 1990s to haul timber from the forests west of Wootton down to the Myall Lakes, for construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Melbourne docks. There are remnants in tact including sleepers and cuttings along and a Trestle Bridge at the end of the track. The walk is 6kms long and travels through an impressive an impressive example of a beautiful young regrowth forest. Most of the walk is a gentle grade and has convenient picnic areas. A round trip through the Wang Wauk State Forest passes through majestic stands of tall timber.

"TALLOWWOOD FOREST PARK"
A fifteen kilometre drive over forest roads leads to the Tallwood Forest Park. Here a thirty minute walk takes you through a tropical rainforest stand where tree ferns, palms, orchids and unique trees thrive.

MUNGO BRUSH
A leisurely drive east from Bulahdelah leads to Bombah Point and the historic car ferry to Mungo Brush. Enjoy the extensive lake views and foreshores featuring unique Cabbage Tree Palms
